1974: Fern Huxley Palmer (1912 to 2001) lived in Ontario. Her father owned a canning factory there, and she was very active in the New York State Grange, being the first woman to serve on the Executive Committee of that body. She was a member of the Ontario Baptist Church and the first woman to be moderator of the Wayne County Baptist Association. She was the first woman to receive the New York State Agricultural Society's highest honor- the Distinguished Service Citation. She also served as the Chairperson of Farmers and World Affairs Seminar at the United Nations and was the first president of the Ontario Historical Society.
