Walworth

1903: Bessie Seely (1881 to 1981) grew up in Walworth, the daughter of Jay Seely: an inventor, plumber, musician and respected citizen. Bessie became the fist woman to graduate from the Law College of Syracuse University, and was later admitted to the New York State Bar. After graduation she seldom returned to Walworth, and in 1958 sold the home inherited from her father to the town for $1. The Walworth Seely Library opened in August 19, 1962, with an 81 year old Bessie cutting the ribbon and being first to enter the new library.
